Alert gas station workers helped Long Hill firefighters prevent what could have turned into a serious fire by calling 911 Sunday afternoon.
The workers at the BP gas station, 5771 Main St., spotted smoke about 2 p.m. Items stored the yard caught fire and caused minor damage to the home, but the residents were not displaced, said Fire Marshal Megan Murphy.
No one was home at the time of the fire.
