Trumbull Cops Nab Another Suspect in Radio Shack Robberies

Demetrius Mikell Wilkes, 22, of Crofton Street, New Haven, is accused of taking part in a ring of Radio Shack robberies.

Wilkes is charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree larceny.

The robbery spree started on Jan. 27 and lasted through May 16. During that time, the suspects stole about 400 cell phones from Radio Shacks and an AT&T store and a Verizon one, in Trumbull, Orange, New Haven, Hamden, Wallingford, Clinton, East Haven and New Britain.

Area police have said handguns were either displayed or implied at the robberies, which typically took place either right before closing or just after opening. Store employees were tied up in at least two of the robberies.

Wilkes' bond was set at $250,000 for an appearance in Bridgeport Superior Court.
