Trumbull Police Chief: Be Vigilant

By Thomas Kiely

Following the tragic events that unfolded today at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in nearby Newtown, the Trumbull Police Department and the Trumbull Board of Education would like to assure the families of all Trumbull school children that school security is always a primary concern for us and that all precautions and procedures will remain in place for the safety of our campuses and students.

While there are no known threats to any Trumbull schools at this time, residents should maintain an increased level of vigilance and always report any unusual or suspicious activity, especially near any school facility.

Trumbull Police Chief Thomas Kiely said, “We recognize the tragedy that has struck the community in Newtown and our condolences go out to all those families that were affected.  As always, our department stands ready to assist our neighbors in Newtown and to ensure the safety of our children here in Trumbull.”  First Selectman Timothy M. Herbst echoed Chief Kiely’s comments.  “Earlier today, I spoke to Newtown First Selectwoman Pat Llodra to offer my condolences to the good people of Newtown and the families affected by this horrific tragedy.  Trumbull stands ready to devote whatever resources that Newtown may require as they respond to this tragedy. Trumbullites should also have every confidence that our police department and town officials are doing everything to ensure the safety of the children of Trumbull as we move forward.”

Residents should be aware that they may see additional police vehicles and an increased amount of police officers and security personnel at schools throughout town in the days and weeks ahead.  School administrators or police officials should be notified of any security concerns or questions regarding safety procedures.
