Bill Haberlin: Planning and Zoning Candidate

The following is a letter to the editor.

The last line of the Jaycee Creed says, and service to humanity is the best work of life.  Simply stated it means giving back of one’s self for the betterment of others.  Since my days as President of a local chapter of the Jaycees I have tried to lead my life by that credo, whether it was in government when I served as Chairman of the Stratford Town Council, professionally when I served as President of the Connecticut and Bridgeport Personnel Associations, or to my God and church where I have served in many capacities including the last five years as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.  In all these leadership positions, for the organization to be successful, the end goal must always be what is best for the organization rather than what is best for the individual – service above self.  Currently I serve Trumbull as a member of the Economic and Community Development Commission.

A most unappreciated person at the circus is the one who follows the elephant around cleaning up the random and unsightly messes he leaves behind.  In Trumbull the Democrats have controlled town hall 32 of the last 40 years, leaving behind unsightly messes on their way.  In 2009 the voters of Trumbull, Republicans, Independents and Democrats tired of the status quo,  said that they had had enough of the messes that were being left on their door steps, and elected Tim Herbst to straighten out the messes and to provide leadership and a compass for Trumbull’s future.  Tim has done a wonderful job in changing the status quo in our town whether it is in properly funding the town’s pension fund, hiring professional managers at town hall, stabilizing property taxes, full-day kindergarten, providing oversight for the sewer debacle, improving the town’s bond rating, senior tax relief and on and on.  These are real and undisputable improvements for our town.  I am proud to be associated with the Herbst team this fall.
