McMahon and Murphy Claim Victory in Trumbull

Unofficial primary results in the U.S. Senate race mirror those across Connecticut.

If unofficial results hold up, the U.S. Senate race will be McMahon vs. Murphy.

Linda McMahon, the Republican Party endorsed candidate, has defeated Chris Shays, the former 4th District Congressman. And on the Democrats' side, Fifth District Congressman Chris Murphy emerged victorious against Susan Bysiewicz, the former Connecticut Secretary of State. Trumbull's unofficial results mirror those.

According to the Registrar of Voters office, Trumbull's results are as follows for the four districts plus absentee ballots:

Democrat Results

  • Murphy: 732
  • Bysiewicz: 288

Republican Results

  • McMahon: 1,259
  • Shays: 573

The total number of votes cast — 2,852 — represents a 23% turnout of the 12,436 eligible voters in Trumbull.

The Senate seat is being vacated by Joseph I. Lieberman, a former Democrat-turned-Independent who is retiring.
