Supt.: Trumbull Schools Ahead of the Curve on State Bullying Law

Ralph Iassogna is also looking for a few good people to create a district-wide commtitee regarding bullying.

The school district is complying with requirements under a new state bullying law, but it was preparing already.

The district must have a school climate specialist and district climate specialist by Jan. 31, 2012, and the committee must be formed by July 1, 2012, said Supt. Ralph Iassogna.

But Trumbull already had bullying policies in place at each school, and a policy was sent home to students and parents before the start of the school year, Iassogna said.

"We're a step ahead. We already had planned" events such as recent teacher and student events at .

"It's a critical and escalating issue," Iassogna added.

The two specialists are unfunded mandates, he noted.

The committee will consist of administrators, teachers, parents and community members. Some have already expressed interest, and anyone else interested should send letters to .
