'The Optical Properties of Astronomical Silicates'

A Trumbull resident presents a paper, and the town is seeking a good park ranger.

Sr. Catherine Fanning Awards Dinner: The Alumni Council awarded four awards at the Sr. Catherine Fanning Privilege & Responsibility Awards Dinner on March 26 at Vazzano’s Four Seasons in Stratford.

The recipients were Patrick O’Keefe, of Monroe, who received the Leadership Award; Rosario “Ross” Bacarella, of Trumbull, who received the Community Award; Doreen Rafferty, of Bridgeport, who received the Dedication Award; and the Rev. Edwin Coyne, of Milford, who received the Spiritual Award.

The winners "contributed immensely" to the St. Joseph High School community in different ways, said Michele Krasznai, Alumni Affairs director. Dinner Proceeds will be used for student scholarships at St. Joseph High School.

Nicole Mihalko makes the grade at Keene State College, N.H.: Mihalko will participate in the Academic Excellence Conference at Keene State College's 11th Annual Academic Excellence Conference today. This student professional conference is designed to showcase the academic work of Keene State students and the collaborative work between students and faculty, according to a college press release.

One hundred forty-nine students will present 170 oral and poster projects, exhibits, panel discussions, and workshops this year. Mihalko will present on "The Optical Properties of Astronomical Silicates."

Saving money on insurance in less than 15 minutes:  The VFW Post 10059, and American Legion Post 141 have saved $1,600 a year by shifting their property insurance over to the town.

Legion Post Commander George Areson and VFW head William Ayles signed the documents Tuesday in Town Hall. Tom Lee, an attorney and veteran, said March 29 marked the departure of the last of the American troops from South Vietnam in 1973.

The veterans first leased the hall on March 28, 1983.

The groups' hall, located near Kaatz Pond at 1 Veterans Circle, is available for rental and Bingo is held every Wednesday. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the game begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $2. 

Are you ranger material?: The town is looking for a part-time park ranger. Applicants must be 21 and a have a driver's license. The position pays $10.85 per hour. Applicants can send information to the Civil Service Department at 5866 Main St., Trumbull, CT, 06611.
