A new Trumbull Math and Science Camp is taking off.

The program is called the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Camp, and its first week drew 39 "budding scientists, engineers and mathematicians," according to a press release.

Now Stem II begins today.

"Through the program, students will have the unique opportunity to develop their science, math, and engineering skills and learn from professionals in the STEM fields about possible career paths," the release stated.

“Students participating in STEM Camp I or II are exploring what STEM is, learning the necessary basic STEM skills, and how it can impact their future learning. Through field trips and unique career awareness exposure with those serving in a STEM field, STEM Camp will provide a great opportunity for students to envision what is possible for their future,” said Supt. Gary Cialfi.

Last week, state Rep. Tony Hwang (Trumbull-Fairfield) spoke to the students, praised their participation, especially in sacrificing their summer vacation plans, emphasizing an investment and commitment to their educational future.

“STEM skills are essential for the future needs of their future and career in a global marketplace dominated by technology and science innovations.  I want to thank all the teachers and volunteer parents for working so hard to create this educational enriching program.

Hwang added, “Most importantly, the enthusiasm and learning curiosity demonstrated by the budding young scientists, engineers and mathematicians reinforce the importance of this program toward educational excellence and a great way to spend their summer vacation.”

Robert Decerbo, Continuing Education director stated, “We are very grateful that many community entities have provided additional support to create a dynamic program where lots of learning and fun activities are planned.”

Community supporters include the Business Education Initiative, Aquarion Water Company, Trumbull Stop & Shop, Big Y, Home Depot, Agriscience and Biotechnology Center, and Brueggers Bagels.
